Book Reviews

I have received some of the books I ordered from Amazon and I thought I would let you know what I thought of them.

First one, Color Your Cloth Color Your Cloth: A Quilter's Guide to Dyeing and Patterning Fabric. I was hoping for a little more on the actual dyeing process and maybe how to mix dyes to get different colours, a colour wheel type thing but I didn’t get it. If you want to know how to make your own printed fabric then this book is for you.

Next, Piec-liquePiec-lique: Curves the New Way is an interesting read. I haven't read it all yet, but I am going to. I like the way it is set out and there is a lot of information and projects to do. It is definitely what I was expecting.

Next, Piece by Piece Machine Applique,Piece by Piece Machine Applique. Again another very informative book, well set out, lots of information and projects to do. It is also what I expected.

The last one for now (there is still one more book to come) is Mastering Quilt Marking,Mastering Quilt Marking: Marking Tools and Techniques - Choosing Stencils - Matching Borders and Corners This book is great! I am about half way through and I really love it. Definitely worth reading.

I am still interested in a book that is more what I am after for fabric dyeing. I want to dye solid colours and in a range of hues etc, colour ranges, colour wheel type stuff, so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

  1. Hi Suzanne, I know you can buy some solid dyes form selected pharmacists called Dylon. Apparently it also comes in a liquid form and that is supposed to be much better and the choice of most quilters. There is also tea bag staining for the more beige/browns etc. hues. I'm sorry I haven't tried either, but perhaps calling your local quilting store might be the way to go. Just a thought!
