I seem to have problems with irons - I don't know what it is but recently my irons are just giving me trouble, or maybe it is the other way round.
While I was ironing my Farmer's Wife blocks on my mini ironing board I misjudged the table surface and the iron teetered for a second before falling onto my carpeted floor. Literally it would have been two seconds before I picked it up, but the damage was done. The iron is fine, working, no issues. My problem is with my carpet!!
Can you believe that?! I was stunned when I first saw it and thought could the water have leaked out and left a water stain?? When I touched it was not water, but it was burnt.
There it is on my floor. Luckily the burn mark was contained all in one carpet square so when it annoys me enough I will replace it with one of my spares.
Since this little accident I have started to use my mini iron. I had forgotten about it (again) but I find it is easier to use on the Farmer's Wife blocks as they are quite small.
Since it has it's own mat it is less likely to fall off the ironing board. Win/win!

Sorry about the burnt spot in your carpet. What brand of mini iron do you use? I've ready so many reviews about what not to buy but could use some advice on which one to buy.
